Will you do Vudu?

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Vudu, is going to give Apple TV some competition, and that is good. This is going to be another in the many steps we will be seeing taking place of morphing from regular television to total on demand TV. It has been going that way for a few years now. The only problem is that you had to wait on the cable companies to catch up. Problem #1 in my book.

First off, here in St. Louis we have what is known as charter communications connection problems. It’s actually more like waiting for a charter communications buyout. That in a nutshell describes what is wrong with waiting for the cable service (at least here in the STL) to come up with something that works.

There will be those that argue and state,”But on demand does work, I watch it all the time.” Yes, it probably does work for those that have not had to hassle with a cable company. For those that have had that problem, you know exactly what I am saying.

Gizmodo had some really cool pictures of this new Vudu box. I was reading through the comments, and one of them was complaining about an ethernet jack on the back. Others wanted streaming right out of the box on release.

I say, “It’s a start, just like Apple TV.” Let’s not knock the product until it is out in the masses. I personally would like to try one out. The only problem, I don’t watch much television. In fact I should be doing that now. I have a ton of things recorded on my Dish Network DVR!

Technically Speaking, competition makes better products for consumers. I am liking what I see so far in Vudu, Inc.

Social Media 2.0 (SM2)

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I like it. I agree, we are heading into social media 2 or SM2 now. With twitter, the abundance of social networks, and video and audio media available online today; this is now SM2. Blogging is not dying off. 15.5 million or 71 million blogs, many are dead spots which is a no brainer in coming to that conclusion.

My personal blog is pretty dead at this time. The point is, SM2 is here. The over proliferation of video and television content has stated that quite clear. TV shows that are “net” only. Exclusive interviews, done “net” only. Justin.tv, UStream.tv, rex.tv — you won’t see that on regular television! You are shaking your head right now and saying, “Rex, dude, that’s video!”

Exactly. What comes with this video? Another blog. Case in point. It’s not dying off. It’s only getting bigger and better. SM2 will be where you can click once, blog, videocast, podcast - Done! That will be the future mashup built by some company.

Created next week? In a month? Or possibly already being thought of and in stealth mode. Maybe the founder of that stealth company just read that. Maybe that person just became really paranoid and IM a co-founder ,”Dude, that Rex can read freakin’ minds!”

Technically Speaking, the web is moving forward, blogging has always been here. It’s just easier now. I remember a long time ago, in the far away 1990’s blogging was there. It just was kind of “manual labor” blogging. No type, push, click, boom.

statisfy me baby….

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Statisfy, is the twittervision for bloggers! I just was turned on to this, so shoot me if this is “old news“.

I signed up, which was totally painless btw, and was talking with NYC own Allen from CenterNetworks; you know Allen right? World Wide Live Allen!

Anyways, he sends me this link to his Statisfy. I was like, “That is way cool.” You see, his blog is one that is in the major leagues of blogging. He rubs shoulders with the big dogs, hits all the conferences, etc… I go there and it was like “Bang, bang, bang, bang!” - Like twittervision, only hits for the blogosphere.

I was impressed. I loaded it on my lowly blog, and I watched. Then I started to chat with Allen again. First hit that rolls in, honestly it was not from STL, it was from Melbourne, Australia. World Wide Live, I am here to statisfy ya! This could be really cool.

Technically Speaking, if you are bored, you can watch the grass grow on my Technically Speaking tracker; or see CenterNetworks tracker linked above and watch some major statisfaction.

Saturday Round Up: 4/28/2007

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

AT&T CEO Retires - With a nice $158.5 million retirement package. Even MBG had some parting words to say.

Jamglue - Growth is the key here. Remember the interview I did?

Optisolar - I really don’t think it’s much of a secret now! :)

Virtual Earth V5 API - They released the new V5 API for all the coders this weekend. I am thinking by middle or even early next week, we will see some implementation of the new API? At least if I could code, I’d tinker with it. Maps are cool, and the virtual earth kind of maps are even cooler!

Pikspot - This sounds like SplashCast meets Vertagio. Mashup social network.

Presidential Debates - I guess MSNBC wanted to jump on this before the other place (Huffington Post, Yahoo, and Slate) does their’s in September.

Firefox for ZCubes - Thank goodness for that! Remember the interview I did with Joe? That was unlike the 5 Question ones I did, but a real phone interview.

Obama on twitter - is there not a reason to be on twitter? If you are running for President, you better get on twitter, then of course, follow me! :)

Ubuntu vs Windows - Side by Side comparison.

justin.tv is being evicted…

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I think that even though the attention spotlight is there now, do you really think that justin.tv will be homeless?

Now that could be interesting. It would provide an inside view into the issues surrounding this countries blatant disregard for the homeless. Justin.tv could live under a bridge or alleyway in San Francisco. They could have first hand views of the homeless, right here in America.

There is no need to send funding to Iraq, Japan, Korea, etc… A lot of that money could be used right here in the most technologically advanced country on the planet. This country should be ashamed at the way it treats it’s people.

People who have been forced to work for slave wages, and the government wonders why the housing market is collapsing. Being thankful when their company “grants them” the right to work “overtime”. Such a benefit, work more hours to make a little bit more. What a slap in the face. It doesn’t take rocket science to figure out, you can’t afford $3 a gallon gas for your vehicle, if that vehicle takes you to a less then $15 per hour job.

There is absolutely no correlation between prices in this country by businesses who have been making loads of money, to the wages these companies are paying it’s workers. The homeless problem only will get bigger, and now it appears that justin.tv and crew will be out on the streets also.

Should we break a tear for justin.tv? No, they will land in some new digs. What I hope happens is that justin.tv will maybe take some time being “homeless” and spotlight the real problems, in real time. Lifecasting is what you do Justin, and why not take a look at the real problems right around the corner from you? You could actually do something mainstream media is unwilling to do.

You do have the “special” reports every now and again, but then it’s quickly covered up with the next episode of “survive on this island” or “dance until you can’t rock“. Justin has the opportunity to talk to some real people, and lifecast it. He has the chance to make a difference with Justin.tv.

Technically Speaking, this sounds like an opportunity to show America and the entire world where we have failed our own people. You can lifecast all of this Justin via Justin.tv. The only question is, “Justin (justin.tv) - Are you going to answer the call and step up?”
