Not perfect and why the STL will never seriously compete…
My web host provider was able to fix what was wrong here on the blog. I tried the Wordpress upgrade instructions, but there was something in my old theme that was causing this all to come to a stop. Lucky for me, all I lost was a very tired theme. Yes, I’ll have to work on a new theme eventually, for now - it works; not perfect, but it will do.
This morning I wish I would have taken a picture of this truck I was sitting behind at a light. This goes into a minor rant, so if you have something against that; move on.
As I was saying, sitting behind this beat up old pick up truck; a work truck more or less. It was one of those people that decides they must use their freedom of speech to the fullest on the back of their tailgate. I think you know the type of person I am talking about.
Here is the reason why the STL will never become anywhere near a technological capital of any sorts. The stickers read, and again, a picture is worth a thousand words - but hey - this is a blog so I can just tell you what I saw.
“Illegal Aliens - NO AMNESTY!”
“Secure the Borders - Not gun control!” - oh and to be cute, there was an adjoining sticker in Spanish.
“I am the NRA - and I am a voter!” - scary thought there…
“When in doubt… EMPTY the CLIP!” - nicely decorated with a Marine Corp emblem; not that I have anything against Marines…
There were more stickers that went along with that theme, as well as the whole anti-abortion and say NO to pro-choice. You get the picture pretty clear just by the above.
It’s that kind of closed minded, small town-ness that makes the STL a place that will never compete as a tech place. This makes most of the good people leave this place for cities with more open minded people. The sad thing is that the STL does have some talented people; most of them have left interestingly enough.
Next time I’ll try to remember I carry a cell phone with a camera (always seem to forget that until it’s too late), and to top this story off - yes, again I forgot to take a picture - last night at the Taco Bell drive thru I was behind someone with the vanity plates that said “STL4EVR“.
Technically Speaking, after today’s pickup tailgate head shaker, all I could think was “Why?!“.
