Big Brother Verizon at your service..

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

One company that I never have had the opportunity to partake in is the company called Verizon. Now after reading this editorial today, I’m rather glad I have not gone down their avenue for service. It appears that they are now censoring in the round about way, and that isn’t a good thing to have happen.

As the editorial points out

The threat stopped being theoretical recently when Verizon Wireless censored political speech on one of its mobile services.

It’s not only Verizon that I’m worried about, as wasn’t it AT&T that censored that Pearl Jam concert about 2 months back? Have things shifted so far to the right extreme in our country where special interest money is all that counts?

Special interest groups that are funding the right wing branch of our government seem to have carte blanche these days. In the name of the first amendment, these obstructions to a free America must be stopped. I don’t foresee anything good by cracking down on free speech. Once the first amendment is gone, there goes any reason to live in America any longer.

If Verizon, AT&T really want to clamp down, the next thing they will do is make sure your blog isn’t seen over their communication lines. We all remember what happened to that ISP @home.com right? It can happen again just like that if we don’t stop it now. Once AT&T took away the lines for @home, they were done. End of story, end of company.

Technically Speaking, these are all my opinions, and most of the time I have enough issues with my web host going down than worrying about Verizon or AT&T censoring my blog! The thought that the next time there is an outage it being AT&T or Verizon shutting my blog down is a scary enough thought for me to write this post.

Video to Video cell phone by AT&T

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Now this is going to be interesting. Considering the fact that the iPhone looked to be the big announcement of the month upcoming, it appears as if AT&T is going to take the bar up a little higher. It is only in limited market release now

Video Share was introduced in three markets - Atlanta, Dallas and San Antonio - to start with and will be available elsewhere in late July.

The new AT&T CEO appears to know what the new generation wants as well as what will keep the company alive

New AT&T Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson told a telecommunications industry trade show in Chicago that the new service has the potential to expand rapidly beyond wireless-to-wireless.

“You should expect this to quickly reach the other two screens, and that’s the PC and the television,” he said at NXTcomm.

“Imagine watching television when a notice pops on the screen that a daughter or granddaughter would like to initiate a Video Share call, then immediately switching the television screen to accept the video and audio,” Stephenson said. “With our powerful IP-based network and flexible IMS platform, these scenarios will eventually be reality.”

Technically Speaking, new blood in corporate America is good news for everyone.

Join the Legion or sheep follow other sheep

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

From this morning’s LA Times there is absolutely no surprise here. AT&T is now jumping on board to stop pirating. Now this is a classic case of the “sheep” that we are. I mean, why wait for other’s to announce this fact first? This is what I totally despise about corporate America. It’s the “sheep attitude” that management has.

It’s almost like most upper management in corporate America can’t think without someone else thinking first. Someone else making an announcement first. It is very comical to me at least to see one of the biggest telecommunications companies around to wait to announce this. They should have been one of the first to announce it.

Again, it seems that they waited on internet media players to jump up and make the call first. I believe this is a sign that corporate America believes that they have no pull anymore. I also think that they realize that in order to maximize their PR, they will wait until a big time internet company announces something first. One that has the respect of the online community.

Community is what this is all about. AT&T hasn’t leveraged the community aspect of being online. Yes, as proven a few years back, they still “own” the lines that we communicate on. That was proven very well in 2001 when they took back leased lines of the @home network.

Still, they haven’t managed to even break the sweat of internet entrepreneurs. In fact, they are an after thought. Yes, you own the lines we all use, but it’s like when you were younger. You had to ask for the keys to your parents car. Where you eventually went, was another story.

Technically Speaking, where is AT&T headed? iPhone mania? That will only be a blip as far this year is concerned. I think once the hoopla passes on that device, it will be back to everyone looking for more innovations, more social networks, and whatever else is of more interest than a company that should have been leading all along; turning into another “sheep”.

It’s Monday….

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Not a lot of time this morning, please check the Link Blog for the full run down.

Yahoo buys RightMedia, this will be the talk of the day. I already have four links to the story right here. I think this is an obvious move to counter Google, which is what the other 4 places are already stating. Since I’m short on time this morning, I’m glad they covered it well, and then some!

AT&T’s new Boss - I love when people question someone’s ability before they have day 1 on the job. They call that what? A Monday Morning QB! Actually that is after the fact, so this would be I guess a Saturday Afternoon QB? Speaking of the NFL, I hope your favorite NFL team drafted well over the weekend.

Charlie’s Angel’s - 5 minute Angel’s! Yes, television is going bye-bye soon. In one way it is sad, but in other ways, with 5 minute shows - I may have time to actually watch and get into series again!

Technically Speaking, I have to roll, but look for a great story in approximately 3 1/2 hours right here! Be sure to get in on the fun to the right (upper right corner) - Jambaz. It’s a game, don’t worry, it’s legit - for fun, and if you are good - well you can make a little bit of money.

Saturday Round Up: 4/28/2007

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

AT&T CEO Retires - With a nice $158.5 million retirement package. Even MBG had some parting words to say.

Jamglue - Growth is the key here. Remember the interview I did?

Optisolar - I really don’t think it’s much of a secret now! :)

Virtual Earth V5 API - They released the new V5 API for all the coders this weekend. I am thinking by middle or even early next week, we will see some implementation of the new API? At least if I could code, I’d tinker with it. Maps are cool, and the virtual earth kind of maps are even cooler!

Pikspot - This sounds like SplashCast meets Vertagio. Mashup social network.

Presidential Debates - I guess MSNBC wanted to jump on this before the other place (Huffington Post, Yahoo, and Slate) does their’s in September.

Firefox for ZCubes - Thank goodness for that! Remember the interview I did with Joe? That was unlike the 5 Question ones I did, but a real phone interview.

Obama on twitter - is there not a reason to be on twitter? If you are running for President, you better get on twitter, then of course, follow me! :)

Ubuntu vs Windows - Side by Side comparison.
