DEMO 08 - Hubdub Introduces Prediction Market for Top News Stories

Monday, January 28th, 2008

hubdub.jpgHubdub is introducing a new technology platform and community that combines the value of user-generated news aggregation with the accuracy and excitement of prediction markets at DEMO 08.

Hubdub is one of only 77 companies handpicked to launch its new technology at DEMO 08, which takes place in Palm Desert, CA, January 28–30, 2008.

Unlike Digg or Reddit, Hubdub tracks only the stories that people decide are worth creating a market around. To create a market, someone simply asks a question, for example, “Will Barack Obama secure the Democratic Presidential nomination?” They request either a “yes” or “no” answer or offer a multiple choice scenario, then determine the duration of trading.

Other community members can wager “Hubdub dollars” (H$) to compete on predictions – everyone starts with H$1,000. As market creators and predictors build a successful portfolio, they can establish credibility to leverage within their industry or area of expertise. Successful predictors make the leaderboard in topics such as Technology, Politics and Sports, which they can link back to their blogs, sites or profiles on social networks.

Markets allow people to see how opinion on any question evolves and changes over time, similar to the historical views on favorite financial trading sites.

For each market, Hubdub automatically populates the trading page with aggregated news from across the Web to provide background and insight for predictors and bystanders. Depending on activity, the market, representing opinion, will trade up or down.

At the very least, Hubdub helps people discover, track and discuss all major news stories and offers to challenge, excite, and reward them through competitive prediction of story outcomes. It also promotes and facilitates intelligent user comments and intense debates. In addition, markets can be embedded in blogs, allowing bloggers to highlight news stories, issues and outcomes they care about within their own communities.

Hubdub was founded in November 2007 by Nigel Eccles, Tom Griffiths, Rob Jones and Chris Stafford, Hubdub is headquartered in Edinburgh, UK. cpm

DEMOfall, Your Truman Show shows up with VideoMap™

Monday, September 24th, 2007

your-truman-show-logo1.GIFYour Truman Show, Inc., the video blogging company, today introduced the VideoMap™ Widget, which allows online video producers and fans to share content across popular social networks wherever it resides on the Internet, from inside the embeddable widget.

VideoMap™ can be placed and accessed by anyone on the Internet, in Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, YourTrumanShow or any other site. Its unique, key component is a graphical video relationship map, which, according to YourTrumanShow’s Founder & Chairman Arturo Artom, “Lets you see who links to you and who you link to as well as the video content you have both collected and may wish to share. VideoMap™ let’s you go from topic to topic and from life to life.”

VideoMap™ lets users open the widget and see themselves in the center of the map, then they can opt from two views. In the first, they are the hub and can see their connections to friends across the Web. In a tray below them, they see their own collection of clips from anywhere on the Internet. When the user clicks on a friend, that friend’s collection appears in the tray.

Your Truman Show’s headquarters is in San Francisco and a development team in Turin, Italy, Your Truman Show, Inc. is the video blogging company dedicated to helping everyday people tell remarkable stories via video diaries. The company provides a free platform (currently in beta) that enables anyone to create their own personal channel, share their stories and review other people’s lives. Founded in 2006, by Arturo Artom and Luca Ferrero, the company is privately held.

3 companies at DEMOfall - Diigo, MyQuire and Yuuguu

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Diigo, will announce an information network that adds an entirely new dimension to the Web. The new Diigo network creates global communities around information, topics, and knowledge. These communities connect people through the content they collect, while also enabling people to discover and share information that matters to them with others in the network.

Diigo users have the ability to “write” on the Web, adding new layers on top of individual Web pages. Every sticky note and highlight added across the Web expands Diigo’s dedicated social information network, allowing users to discuss content directly on each page.

Diigo users can also now create or join groups. Diigo groups provide a forum for collaborative research and learning - connecting people with similar interests. Users can pool their findings through group bookmarks, highlights, and sticky notes. Researchers can also create private groups for sharing and collaboration among specific teams.

MyQuire, is an online tool for doing projects. It lets members work with tools they already know, keep their projects on track, meet with other project members in real time conferences, and connect their projects with their networks. While there are plenty of project tools out there, most people haven’t found one that fits their lives.

Instead of forcing people to change their behavior, MyQuire’s intuitive design and simplified feature set let people work how they want to work. They can spend more of their time achieving their goals and less of it tracking down who’s done what, hunting for the latest version of a document, or finding ways to share files that are too large for email.

The increasing popularity of social networks and communities like Facebook and LinkedIn has opened the door for MyQuire’s success. People are getting more and more comfortable interacting with each other in online environments. However, many are now wondering how they can move beyond the entertainment and networking value of Web 2.0 and use this new world to help them get more done. MyQuire is the answer.

Yuuguu , out of the UK, is designed for an increasingly mobile world. The new service helps people work together remotely, across different platforms, with as many colleagues as needed, just as if they were sitting in the same room.

Yuuguu, derived from the Japanese word for fusion, enables users to see, share, and take control of each other’s computer screens and applications. Unlike previous Web collaboration solutions, Yuuguu supports Web browsers on any device, including mobile phones — for unprecedented flexibility. Users can securely share their screen with anyone at any time, whether they’re on a PC, Mac, or mobile phone.

Free and easy-to-use, Yuuguu can be used by team members working on a project or by friends sharing applications. Colleagues and friends can message and chat while they share screens for enhanced collaboration. The platform includes high quality, low cost voice conferencing services for one-to-one and one-to-many voice calls. And Yuuguu’s integrated presence status brings a sense of community to Web sharing, as users can see when friends are online and click to invite them.

Technically Speaking, DEMOfall sounds like an excuse for me to travel back to the SD! :)

Final Thoughts

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

I just loaded up the Link Blog, so check that out. Here are three items I pulled out though. The first one is a small percentage that some of us have been able to get into:

Looking for an Internet Paycheck - I will just put the quote here, but you may just decide from this article that you are going to get in or work in the construction industry building new houses:

The United States government has released new employment numbers for the last several years, showing there were 933,000 more jobs than previously thought. A handful of them — 6,300, to be exact — were in Internet companies, including publishing and broadcasting. But that did not alter the trend.

myubo - New video site. It appears they are gearing it towards that cell phone video market. Looks pretty good from what I could see.

5 Key Trends from DEMO - Allen always hits it right on. That thought is even more apparent because he had a guest writer Patricia Handschiegel from Stylediary contribute for him! Nice job dude! Your blog CenterNetworks is going be near the top of the 2007 blog list come December. I can already see that coming on strong!

Technically Speaking, I really have to get a move on if this video is going to be coming out on Monday or next week, as well as needing some major work done on GMAFB or Give Me A Friggin’ Break. Link Blog!

GETaBuz

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

getbuzz.gifGETaBuz - Yup, day late, dollar short. I saw this place during the DEMO 07 reviews. There were so many cool things coming out from DEMO, and I meant to post about this days ago. It looks like the beta is free for now. I’m sure they will be a popular site very soon. I can see this as the go to site in the near future. I miss my “free e-cards” sites that use to be in abundance back in the day. Could they keep this free? Maybe. Doubtful though.

If they are on the up and up, they have to make money to pay out to the legitimate copyright holders. First and foremost, if they are offering up real music by real artists, the artist must receive their compensation. I guess, what I mean is real music by major label signed artists. I am the champion of the independent music scene! I think you know what I meant, but wanted to clarify it so I don’t get slammed about now being a shill or something. I am not receiving anything from any label as compensation!

Technically Speaking, keep an eye on this site in 2007.
