How to ruin porn online…

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Well it seems like these guys have figured out a way to ruin porn online by making it a spamming tool. The only good thing is that it seems to be a Windows Internet Explorer issue for the time being.

The virtual stripper program arrives on machines that are already infected with malicious software, said Mr Genes. The program comes to life when the Internet Explorer browser is used on infected machines.

The Captcha-busting program can run on Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, and Server 2003.

What this means for everyone though is that the internet is going to become a smaller place before you know it. It’s bad business to have this out there, as if they can do it with a stripper, they can do it with anything.

Maybe it was only a proof of concept, and they will nail this shut as fast as it opened. Let’s all hope that is the case, but as Pandora’s box is opening once again, it will be hard to shut. It’s almost like I can actually hear some anti-porn people screaming “Praise the Lord, porn is dead online!”

So far the two security firms who have spotted the program, Trend Micro and Panda Security, have not seen many copies of it in the wild suggesting few people have been caught out.

Technically Speaking, of course porn is dead, it’s been overtaken by social networking! Where have you been?

Funny, but sad…

Monday, July 30th, 2007

**** UPDATE: VentureBeat admits mistake ***** Sorry readers, this wasn’t as it seemed. Matt posted a full explanation on the post which you can find right here. Every now and again, the percentages are going to go against you. I know Matt is very concise on his writing of stories. Very precise in fact. It happens, and all I can say is that VC’s/Investors - Take note - Next time it could be the REAL DEAL.

I was doing my usual before dinner Link Blog Lock n’ Load, and I ran across this. I about spit out what I was drinking in laughter. I had to of course see the source where he made his commentary. Now it’s funny, as in the fact that I want to just scream “I freakin’ told you so!” But I won’t. It is sad, as it sets a bad precedence for other investments being made.

There are many companies out there worthwhile of investment. Companies that need that helping hand to get off the ground. These morons have just about screwed it up for everyone. It’s always the case of the one bad apple.

Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against porn. I have nothing against flying in black helicopters on the company dime. What I find wrong is that if you want to buy porn, don’t buy it on the company dime (idiot). Or if you do, make sure you can at least do the crime correctly. If you want to steal company money, steal it in a totally shady way.

Yes, I see both sides of the coin at all times. Not against porn, not against the perks of the executive life. I’m just against stupidity and this has to be the epitome of it. I mean honestly, don’t you think that if you bought porn on the company funding, you would be smart enough to hide it in a paperwork shuffle?

Technically Speaking, I once wrote a post questioning the investment process. I said something to the extent of “it’s about how many tequila shots you can get the VC to drink” - I was flamed on that pretty hard in my comments. Hmmm… looks like I knew just a little bit more than that person. My words are probably a lot closer to the truth than meets the eye. Personally, I would have bought some real estate.

Last Friday I talked about Sprint and the before bed ramble…

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Sprint killing over 1000 accounts - now it seems it’s a big deal in the mainstream media. This leads me to believe the real reason that top C level executives are leaving old media. They are tired of the pace that it seems to move. Tired of the way old media has not embraced new media. Yes I already talked about Sprint last Friday.

I don’t blame them one bit. That is why I set up Planet Social Media Services. I’m not out to kill traditional places, I’m just here to offer the new companies the option of getting there via the social media outlets that are available. Using the tried and tested methods that rocketed Lending Club to where it is today; only like 50 days after launch on May 24th.

You can’t argue with the data that was reported both by TechCrunch and Mashable. Most interesting is watching from the inside how traditional media sources are also picking up on the buzz that is being created.

Places like the Boston Globe as well as the San Francisco Business Times and Kiplinger.

This all leads us back to where it all started. Well not where it started obviously as there were many that tried to get traction before, but MySpace is now recognized as the leader.

Why? Well fresh out of Europe is this look at how they have taken over the world. Not quite, but they have millions of registered users. I say registered, not active. The activity is high, as I can tell when it goes bonkers, but what is the actual activity going on?

A bit dangerous to talk about, but I’m glad that VentureBeat covered the porn connection of Stickam. I’m sure by the morning there will be some denials as well as clear distinction being made. The facts remain, I know VB does fact checking. Not only will they fact check, but they will double and triple fact check if need be. One site that I trust, will rather run a story late or not at all if the facts are not all checked - is VentureBeat.

Statistics. You have to love them, hate them, or just ignore them and continue doing what you do best. Allen is correct, stats are a freakin’ joke. He makes a valid point about “time spent on a site” as something that could be easily challenged and gamed.

Once again it’s to my main point that I have said many times now. Why are some sites considered the leader, and other stats ignored because the leader(s) say to ignore them?

I am agreeing totally, there needs to be a new stat master and I for one would love to see Allen be the one to erase the slate and come up with something. His background in the industry more than qualifies him to be the new slate eraser and creator all in one stroke.

Technically Speaking, I should have been working some more, but it’s been a long productive day and tomorrow awaits!

Porn: Live by the sword, Die by the sword

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

This NY Times article, which I saw late last night and passed on begs me to write something this morning. Porn is now finding out that they cheapened their own image by infiltrating the internet. It may have not been so much that porn came online, but how they marketed it really hurt their own industry in the process.

They are totally correct, they now have to spend money to make money. In order for “real porn” to be considered worthwhile for the consumer to purchase, it must be a Hollywood production. That costs money, which in turn is lowering the profit margin for the usual porn video producer or porn movie company.

I believe the real lesson learned here is - “Do NOT use SPAM as a marketing tactic!” The people saw so much of it (porn spam), the people decided to fight back. I don’t feel sorry for the billion dollar industry. I just think that it will be a long uphill battle to overcome the dilution of bad porn online.

Technically Speaking, why would I want to purchase, rent, a porn by a “real porn company”? I mean there is enough “free” porn that you can readily find online. Sadly enough, if you don’t know where to “look”; check your spam folder and guaranteed you’ll find a few sites to check out!

260 new porn sites daily…

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

Two Hundred Sixty new porn sites daily. That is a staggering number of new porn sites to hit online. I mean, seriously, do the math. 260 sites times 365 days a year is a whopping 94,900 sites that come online in a year’s time! How many porn sites are really needed to satisfy the 76% of the male population that views it?

That’s overkill. I mean, how many of these sites are amateur crap? How many are nothing more then someone like Rex Dixon with a video camera? Not that I am turning out porn, but the stats go even further. Even though we all know that social networking passed up porn like back in March of this year, it is still generating money.

How much money? How about $89 a second. That’s more than you make at a $10 per hour job somewhere. I can see the attraction to creating one of those 260 daily sites. There was $2.84 billion generated in revenue in 2006.

Now that is something to think about.

Here is something else to think about.

What if you combined the two? Porn and social networking. Yes, I believe that is the future of porn. Even though some people will say it’s places with videos such as PornoTube , which I would not recommend opening at work, who hosts videos much the same as YouTube does.

Why stop at just the two, add the video hosting! I would say the future lies in a Porn-Social Network that also hosts videos. Now that would be a $5 billion a year revenue generator! :)

Technically Speaking, you have social networking with it’s billions, and then there is porn also with billions. Which do you choose? This is truly the case of picking a lesser of two evils.

The numbers that wouldn’t go away…

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

It appears that there will be a big backlash to the numbers that just wouldn’t go away. This will probably be a fun court battle as no one died over a set of numbers.

It is quite amusing to me actually. I mean seriously, if you are that hard up to watch HD DVD, go buy the hardware. I meant that exactly as I stated it, go buy the HD DVD and the hardware to play it on. This actually reminds me of back in the day of people trying to unscramble the Pay-Per-View scrambling. Stupid.

Do you really want to see moles and unshaved hair? Do you really want to see what makeup didn’t cover up? I personally think it would take away from the video spectacular in HD DVD. If you have not figured out what I’m talking about yet, please just go right here and read.

Technically Speaking, get a freakin’ life. Buy the hardware to watch the thing and quit wanking it in front of your computer! 1,430,000 something searches done. 1,430,000 people to cheap to go buy the actual hardware. Yeah, now please go digg this, you may as well start something else that Kevin can’t stop.

Porn replaced by Social Networks

Friday, April 20th, 2007

It’s true. Numbers and graphs in this case are probably not lying. The only bad thing, is that a lot of porn has really reworked itself in the past few years. What am I saying? Exactly what you are thinking. Porn is just installing itself in the world of social networking.

ustrafficgraph.gif

Are these true social only networking sites, or porn social networking sites that are included in the statistics? Stats are a funny thing. If you count such sites as “Adult Friend” sites, that are based around social networks, they could technically be counted in. Since these statistics were cut off in February, it’s almost certain that social networking has passed up porn by now.

Now since porn was a $1 billion a year business in 2002, it gets me to thinking, what has changed? I think one of the main things that has killed off a lot of the industry is the SPAM industry. Porn made a big mistake by using that route of advertising. SPAM about porn is probably the biggest killer of porn.

What is going to kill off the social networking industry? Porn? Can you see a sick silly circle developing here? I’m just laying out some questions, and theories here. Nothing serious.

Technically Speaking, Social Networking has surpassed Porn and that for the moment is a good thing.

Ron Jeremy talks tech

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Yes, that Ron Jeremy. So it’s a slow day, as everyone is now being really careful on what is real and what is April 1st joking around. At least it fell on a Sunday! It’s quite apparent, the porn celebrity has a hard time accepting the technology in the world today:

For a guy with a master’s degree, six years of college and a teaching license from New York State, it’s amazing how unsavvy I am on the computer and a cell phone.

While he doesn’t accept it, he still does embrace it fully, he even mentions a 3-D hologram film shoot he just did, and stated:

Of course porn has always been a leader in technology. Everyone knows that. At Amazon and eBay, porn is like the most popular thing on the Internet.

Technically Speaking, it’s real slow right now, real slow! So slow, that you might even want to watch rex.tv for a few.

Upload some porn according to Mark Cuban!

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Yes, that Mark Cuban. The owner of the Dallas Mavericks say “Upload Porn” to YouTube and Google video. He does make a valid point. If YouTube and Google Video are claiming still they can’t block copyrighted material, how come there isn’t more porn on the two services?

Technically Speaking, this basically has Mark Cuban calling out both services, and their owners (founders, engineers, operations, etc.. ) a bunch of big a$$ liars.
