Sponsors –> To the right folks

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Just wanted to take a moment to remind people that the sponsors need some visits. These are people who have supported my efforts here on this blog. Please give them a visit today, and if you find their service useful, consider buying a product they may be selling. If they are offering a free service, then consider just checking the service out as it grows.

Who are the sponsors? That’s easy, they are located to the right top of this blog. First off, there is a game there now where YOU the reader can make money - Jambaz. They are not officially a sponsor, but I thought I would play “guide” for my sidebar. Below that you have your normal Google AdSense ads which practically every site has. Then you run into the sponsors.

Collarity - Search is big, and these guys are growing.

DigitalRon - This site’s web host who also has other services.

askitonline - A one person operation to make survey’s easier online.

yourminis - If you don’t know what yourmini’s is yet, you have been living under a rock!

HTPBG - The book that every business person should read this year.

Planypus - Before Socializer, or any copy of eVite clone site that is out there now, there was Planypus.

Kumomo - Want to run an ad here and also help a charity? This is how to do that.

Sunday Round Up: 4/22/2007

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

It is a beautiful day here in the STL. The BBQ grills will be going, and that includes mine. With that being said, here is what I have found that deems a good read today:

Boston Censorship - Boing Boing is being blocked on public WiFI networks in Boston. By order of the Mayor’s office. Wow! Censorship in Boston.

Statsaholic-Alexa - A widget to track the ongoing support or the slamming of.

Vertagio - Now this one is sort of cool. CenterNetworks reposted my post from the other day. Thanks Allen! This validates what I write to be reposted in such a high profile blog. Much appreciated, as when you blog daily, sometimes you start to wonder if it is worth it.

Not Always - About the money. Sometimes the location does matter. Seattle or Silicon Valley. Which would you choose are your companies new home?

Techinline - A company that one of my favorite bloggers, Ali of everybodygoto, supports. He explains the service well in this article.

Eight New Google Apps - Coming to a browser near you soon!

twitter gets real - This gets human. Sad to see someone with so much promise die suddenly. Even sadder if you had this person as a twitter friend.

Technically Speaking, as I sit here and blog daily living outside of the SV or the tech triangle I also wonder to myself quietly, “Is This Really Worth It?” I think there are many benefits, and even though the money isn’t coming in boat loads, as we see above, it is not always about the money.

Never thought I would say that, did you? One last thing on this Sunday until later on, as I have a BBQ to get ready to produce today - if you have not done so - please give your 10 answers and let my sponsor know if it is really worth it - ANSWER THE SURVEY!

Lastly — Please visit all of my sponsors today; you know them - and I’m not talking just the affiliate ads (do appreciate the outbound links I am seeing) or the Google AdSense (ditto!) stuff - but the for real people -

such as - Collarity, Planypus, HTPBG, DigitalRon, yourminis, and askitonline. These are the real deal sponsors of this blog! Please visit them at least once a week if you get a minute. They appreciate it, and you can never tell when something new is going on there. Oh.. feel free to buy a t-shirt, do a video or take a picture wearing it - I’ll promo it!

WTF, and yes I know….

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

This site had zero ads at one point in time. This site also made zero dollars at one point in time. I also use to bust my a$$ getting content here. I still bust my a$$ getting content here.

Yes, it is overkill, but until I am able to clearly see what makes someone go “click” on one of the ads; I have to run them for a test period. Now the one thing that I’m sure you are glad about, you read English from left to right. If you are here to read the posts, then the ads are only a colorful distraction off to the right to keep you awake.

Technically Speaking, at least I am not running the ads in the actual post. I know that works better, but I also think color ads (banner picture type) are proving to be better overall so far. The experiment continues and don’t sweat the small stuff Maynard, if you are not interested in clicking any of them, you won’t hurt my feelings. I have to conduct a meaningful blitz of an ad experiment.

Oh — the ads I DO CARE about and hope you are still clicking and visitingCollarity, HTPBG, Planypus, askitonline, yourminis, DigitalRon — please give those a click or three every few days! They deserve the look and you can never tell if they have something NEW going on!

The sponsors to your immediate right - Collarity, Planypus, HTPBG, yourminis, askitonline, and DigitalRon. I know they will appreciate a visit, and I also know that they may have updated things since your last visit.

Technically Speaking, more regular posts in a little while.

GMAFB and it’s a wrap…

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

I did some work on the GMAFB, so if you haven’t been there in a little bit, go take a look. There is something quirky going on as far as the server goes, so the blog for GMAFB is currently not working. I have a message in with my hosting provider over there. If you don’t have an account over there, it is probably time you signed up for one! You can’t vote or post without an account.

For the last item that isn’t self serving for the day (well it’s actually the new day) - here is a very nice looking piece of art. It is something I tried to get across to people about nine years ago. A computer case is just that, a case. It can be anything. I wish that my bud in NYC and I would have taken a picture of that wall computer we built (or he built really; my idea). Now that was a pile of crap, but it was fun. It actually proved my point. I think it’s name was “wall.insomnia.org“. Those were some fun and wild times; think days before wireless and like 15 computers on a network inside a 3 bedroom slab house. Cat5 running on the ceiling; a 386 PC w/8mb of ram running Linux as our firewall; dual channel ISDN; dumb terminals (even one he hooked up in the bathroom!); the main server was a dual P166 Linux workhorse - not RedHat, not Debian - but good old Slackware install. The stories, and the mass consumption of Red Dog and Ice House beer!

Sponsor time - hit them up please - Collarity - Planypus - askitonline - HTPBG - DigitalRon - yourminis - I know I just did the Google AdSense thing, but these are real live people that I have a reason to put their ad up on the side bar. Give them a click, and a Google ad wouldn’t hurt if you see one that is interesting.

Technically Speaking, it’s Link Blog Lock N’ Load time! Until tomorrow (later today) - Good night and oh — if you haven’t signed up for a twitter account yet, do so — it’s just mindless fun! Just like what the the GMAFB is suppose to be - FUN!

Now the cheapest domain name and dedicated server hosting is available for the website developers to connect to the internet world. The web hosting allows the businesses to make a site in accordance with the demands of the internet users and potential customers. The customers using dsl and wireless internet connections want a high speed in the searches for related products which they require. The wireless internet service has solutions for businessmen who are always on the go by providing them accessibility everywhere they go. The wifi connections give the consumers the facility of operating on the net through wireless networks all the time.

Internet Best Seller

Friday, March 16th, 2007

That is what Scot is telling me these days. You have to remember, that a lot of people buy the eBook versus a hard copy. It seems that many people prefer that. Personally speaking, I would rather have the book itself sometimes. Where is this going?

If you haven’t figured out yet, it’s time for a sponsor round up. I just updated Scot’s logo for his book - How To Play Business Golf. So, with all that being said —- readers let’s start showing some interest in these companies sites. There could be new features that you haven’t seen, or you may be visiting for the first time. Whatever the case may be, just give them a visit please!

Collarity - DigitalRon - Planypus - askitonline - HTPBG - *now an internet best seller - and of course the mainstay, the first ad ever placed on this site - our long time supporter - yourminis

I do apologize for the lack of posts here. I have been writing my a$$ off lately, and there should be some more articles coming out on VentureBeat very soon. I have not abandoned this site. I am updating the Link Blog still at least once every 24 hours, sometimes twice. I am trying to present a better product here, and that means more concentrated efforts in the writing.

I did add a twitter feed on the right, for my twitter as well as people I have on my follow list. It can be interesting I guess. twitter has slowed down quite a bit since SXSW started to break camp on Wednesday. I think there is a good to it, but there sure was a lot of fun hype during the SXSW week!

Technically Speaking, I need to get to bed now - 5am comes way early!

Busy Tuesday; evening wrap up

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

I know it’s a busy Tuesday with all kinds of news when the big dogs like VentureBeat even have to wrap n’ roll it. It is almost like on Tuesday’s, anyone that is a serious blogger must stay tuned and keep typing. With that being said, let’s do an evening wrap up; at least for now.

Radio Copyright Ruling - This could be the killer podcast, or web cast of the year. What I really mean is this could kill the web cast, the podcast, the video cast, the anything online that is media. I don’t like what I’m reading about it, and I think that the government is trying hard now to close Pandora’s box.

Sierra buys AirLink - This is good to know, as while I’m typing this, I am working on trying to install Xubuntu on this old laptop. If it all works, then I want to of course get a wireless card for it.

Vomit Beam - Coming to a war or demonstration near you. Yes, there is a guy puking on this page, so if that grosses you out, then move on to the next story. This is your United States Navy doing research. Yes, it’s true, I once was in the USN. I didn’t vomit except the first few times out at sea. :)

Is Microsoft just jealous? - After I read this below comment, I am thinking that maybe Microsoft is a bit jealous that Google tapped the internet and did it well?

“Companies that create no content of their own, and make money solely on the backs of other people’s content, are raking in billions through advertising revenue and IPOs,” says Rubin, who oversees copyright and trade secret law at Microsoft.

Microsoft and the AP - It looks like this online network has been going for a year now.

Mpire is looking better - The funny thing about Mpire, was actually after I first posted about it. I was on the phone one day with Mae, and she was saying she needed to go buys something, etc.. And I told her to check out that site I posted about, etc. She says to me, “You mean Empire?” and I was like, “No, the company’s name started with the letter M.”

GeoSign and $160 million - I wonder - did they go off of the Alexa rankings? Should we run another comparison like I did in the last post on Geni’s Alexa stats and this blogs?

Technically Speaking, I believe it’s also time for another Link Blog Lock N’ Load. Oh and thank you everyone for visiting all the sponsors this week - I’m hearing some great feedback - so keep visiting them to learn more about their great service - Collarity, DigitalRon, askitonline, HTPBG, Planypus and of course the long time mainstay here - yourminis. Lastly, have you signed up for Agloco yet?

YOU have the power to make more MONEY!

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

What power is that? To use the internet to make more money at your job. The sites the NY Times are mentioning today are great sites when you go in for that next annual review. Now if you are like most people, there are good chances your company will refuse to pay the market rate for your job. Most companies are like that. In fact, most companies will tell you how much money they made last year, and then slap you in the face with a standard 3-4% raise.

When you think about it, that barely covers the cost of the rising gasoline prices in this country. How do you stop the madness that companies have over your earnings? Well as most of us have discovered, the way to go is of course right here, online.

There are millions of dollars available here. Right here, right now. My advice is to take the advice of the article above and to try to negotiate a better salary. Once your boss squirms and says,”Well yes, the company made $10 gazillion last year, but….But what? You can’t afford to pay the loyal slave a living wage? You can’t afford to read the news that shows we are in the midst of recession, which won’t be admitted until months from now? You don’t care that your workers show up to make that $10 gazillion for your company, and would rather just fire you then pay you what you deserve?

Yes folks, come online and start your way to money. This can be through services such as Agloco which use to be the old AllAdvantage dot com. They are getting to release the viewbar this month, and if you click the link above you can sign up and start making money that way. Entrepreneur John Chow made money with AllAdvantage dot com. Rex Dixon also did, but not quite as much as John did back in the day.

I’ll be honest, when I first heard about Agloco and realized it was the AllAdvantage, I was thinking, “Been there, done that… ” That article was a sort of hasty one I put together, and to be quite honest, I’m now after further review thinking - “I’m going to give Agloco a shot again just like I did with AllAdvantage.” As much as I am online these days, I stand to make a pretty decent size check from them. I made decent money with the old AllAdvantage, can’t remember exactly how much, but it was like around $100 something a month. Not too shabby for surfing the internet right? I say go sign up, and what do you have to lose?

Now with that all being said, be sure to give some Sunday love to all my sponsors here. Collarity, DigitalRon, askitonline, yourminis, HTPBG the book, and Planypus. You can also of course help this blog out by providing a donation via one of the three “Make A Donation” buttons you see on the right. Another way to help out this blog is to buy one of the T-Shirts to help spread the word by just going about your business and wearing one.

Most of you readers are probably glad that GMAFB has it’s own blog now. I did a slight cosmetic update over there on Friday night. I just looked at this morning, and there are like close to 47 items out there that need a FRIGGIN’ BREAK. You should really considering joining the site, as signing up will open up your ability to vote, comment, participate, etc. Close to 500 people viewed the site the other day; think it was Friday. I wish I had my changes in before that, but nevertheless, it’s pretty self explanatory how to use.

I understand that some people are a bit slow on the uptake, and for those, Second Mule will be hopefully be creating a podcast explaining how to use and utilize GMAFB. I think it’s a simple concept, but there are others out there that have expressed a “WTF?” as far as how to use the site. I am not at all making fun of them, but more like am very happy that SM will be creating a podcast for the site later today. We are trying as a team to spread the word over there on GMAFB, and once it catches on, I still truly believe that it will be a lot of fun.

Speaking of podcasts, I hope our good online friend Paul from the Coffee show #6 is okay. You can listen to that podcast right here on the blog; right side bar - the SplashCast widget for the podcast. Paul has also become quite the podcaster! If you have not heard, it appears that there is a bit of unrest going on over in Denmark. I want to make a plea now to the rioters - “Chill out man, Denmark ROCKS, and they are like Technically Speaking’s biggest readers!”

The Denmark comment above is according to Alexa, but who believes those stats? I do however notice that my Technorati stats are creeping up slowly, nothing like my good friend Kittymama though. She has even left the hottest tech blog in the dust. Sorry Allen, but she passed you standing just like she left me on the charts. Way, way back. At least you have a shot of passing Kittymama up!

Technically Speaking, it is like a bloggers nightmare out there today. There is really hardly anything that grabs me to write. I have already Link Blog Locked N’ Loaded!

Quick Sponsor Round Up

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

Yes, I said the special guest post was next, but in all fairness, it is time to thank all of the sponsors. Please pay them a visit today.

Collarity - The newest sponsor. They are a great company that will coming out with some exciting new changes in the coming weeks. Give them a visit, and see what they are all about.

Digital Ron Technologies - Without this former business partner of mine, there would be no web host for this blog as quickly as I needed it. Ron is the man, and if you need a web host - look no further then Digital Ron Technologies.

AskItOnline - Another person who if they were not there, this blog would look a lot different. Kaitlyn is the great designer of my Technically Speaking logo and banner. Her site is a great place for surveys.

yourminis - Alex and the guys were the first, and well as you all know, I use yourminis each and every day! Shouldn’t you?

How To Play Business Golf - This is actually the last book I read. I read it from cover to cover and I do not play golf. I do however support the concept of Business Golf. Scot is also my joint partner over on the GMAFB. It truly is the book that you must have to do the Business Golf thing correctly.

Planypus - What can I say about Alex and Yan that hasn’t already been said? I mean we (Mae and I) pretty much featured them on the last Technically Speaking Live Episode #3. These guys rock! You want a true event planning site, and not just another social network fiasco? Look no further then these guys.

Technically Speaking, if you buy a shirt and don’t forget that this is a contest now. Just trying to get a sponsor or three lined up. Now coming up is the special guest post, and don’t forget to go FRIGGIN’ BREAK IT! Or see if something you FRIGGIN’ BROKE is climbing up the pages yet. Don’t have an account yet? Well if you want to have fun over on GMAFB you need to get one — yes, it’s FREE!

* Welcome our New Sponsor - Collarity *

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

The deal to get collarity_banner.gifCollarity here on this blog as a sponsor has been in the works since I interviewed Levy Cohen back on December 1st, 2006. His company is creating a new way to search for things on the web. Search is big, and I believe that Collarity is offering something new and unique. I’m quite pleased to have them here on this blog as a sponsor. New and exciting things are coming out from them in the coming weeks.

What will Collarity being doing for YOU in the near future? They are offering Collarity search and content Discovery Services for your web site. It is cutting edge search. It goes beyond what we know today as search.

Collarity will quickly and easily integrate with your web site to provide automated search and content suggestions. This is based on the natural communities-of-interest of your audience. Collarity learns from the anonymous interaction of web visitors and the content on your site how best to rank search results and how to guide users to relevant content that interests them.

Does that sound interesting to you? Does it make you want to visit them again? I know you read the interview once, and probably again right now. I know that in the coming weeks something really exciting is about to be launched on the internet. Collarity, give them a visit today to find out more information.

Technically Speaking, I am again truly thankful that after this length of time, we are able to finally announce that they are an official sponsor of this blog.
