thefl0yd’s kegerator

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

**** UPDATE **** The pictures below are a prototype without the “intelligent” front LED panel. This is going to be an “intelligent kegerator“. thefl0yd has more information on all of this, and he is really close to procuring the last parts for the front panel and the “intelligent” part.

My buddy in NYC, who is better known “thefl0yd” is in the process of creating a revolutionary new way to have beer. I should actually say, a new way to keep kegs fresh. Now many are saying, this isn’t innovation, but it is. This will, when complete, have a digital read out that will tell you “how full” or “if you need a new keg“. Yes, this is the man that taught me all I know about Linux. He is the one that made my idea of wall.insomnia.org a reality.

Now THIS is something that an angel investor or VC should invest in! This is actually a useful device for small bars, restaurants, and your own home bar. Kegerator, by the floyd, will be priced reasonably for consumer and business use.

He was the guy that said “We can use a 386dx40 w/8mb of ram as our PPP dedicated dial-up router and firewall!” He is the one that said “Let’s pull in a dual ISDN!” He is the guy that has said “Installing OS builds character!” Now this was all back in the days of the late 1990’s, ISDN was still not cheap, DSL was not everywhere, and the cable modem service that was out there was one way cable. Remember those? Terrible.

We spent the summer of 1998 drinking beer on our front lawn in a very nice neighborhood. We had cheap plastic lawn chairs and tiki torches for the mosquitos. We BBQ on almost a daily basis in a grill that someone threw out as trash, and took lot’s of Nyquil and drank more beer. We had cat 5 cable running all over the place. Staple gunned to the ceiling; quick and easy wire runs. Computer hardware everywhere. Linux, SunOS, Windows, all mashed together on the network.

It was a fun time, and I figured even though he moved back to NYC, we’d eventually see each other online. Anyways, I got on a roll down memory lane — just so that he would read this all! Maybe remember how insanely weird of a time it was way back when. So, without further ado, here are the pictures (click to see full size):

Technically Speaking, all angel investors or VC types, please contact me so I can put you in contact with the floyd. He is a personal friend, and I think this device will make a ton of money!
