Widgets running wild, but this time on NBC!

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

NBC and Clearspring will be announcing the deal today between the two. Yes, that NBC as the major network television company. This is the first time that a television company is going to partner with a widget company. I believe though seeing is believing.

this is a first of kind deal between a widget platform and a media giant. In the interview earlier today, Radfar said that he sees this as a major step towards breaking silo/portal approach and embracing distributed content strategy for NBC.

clearspring-widget1.png

After seeing the widget, I can see the distribution potential. I also like what the article was stating about “write once, run anywhere“, meaning less work on the developer side of things. If that statement is in fact the truth, then Clearspring clearly has an advantage over many of the widget companies out there today.

Technically Speaking, they have developed a platform and not only a widget. What really matters is now they have the leverage to push their widget agenda forward with a distribution network that is going to be in everyone’s face.

Widget Year, and now a shopping widget…

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

mpire07.gifLate last year people were already buzzing about widgets. Also late last year I talked a bit about Mpire. It is a shopping site, and now it looks they are harnessing the power of the simple widget for shopping. Today they will introduce 80 shopping widgets.

Letting the shopper keep 100% of the lead revenue is the aim of these free widgets that they want you to use. Mpire feels that their ranking will go up with users that put the widgets on their blogs or MySpace pages.

They are serious about having these widgets accepted by the blogosphere and social networks. Partnering with whateverlife.com, Mpire is stating that they will be competitive in the widget sphere. These widgets will integrate easily into blogging and social platforms.

Mpire has been doing well for another shopping site. They had 800,000 unique visitors last month which is up another 100,000 from the previous month. They are backed with $10 million in funding, and these widgets roll out this morning.

Sunday Round Up: 4/22/2007

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

It is a beautiful day here in the STL. The BBQ grills will be going, and that includes mine. With that being said, here is what I have found that deems a good read today:

Boston Censorship - Boing Boing is being blocked on public WiFI networks in Boston. By order of the Mayor’s office. Wow! Censorship in Boston.

Statsaholic-Alexa - A widget to track the ongoing support or the slamming of.

Vertagio - Now this one is sort of cool. CenterNetworks reposted my post from the other day. Thanks Allen! This validates what I write to be reposted in such a high profile blog. Much appreciated, as when you blog daily, sometimes you start to wonder if it is worth it.

Not Always - About the money. Sometimes the location does matter. Seattle or Silicon Valley. Which would you choose are your companies new home?

Techinline - A company that one of my favorite bloggers, Ali of everybodygoto, supports. He explains the service well in this article.

Eight New Google Apps - Coming to a browser near you soon!

twitter gets real - This gets human. Sad to see someone with so much promise die suddenly. Even sadder if you had this person as a twitter friend.

Technically Speaking, as I sit here and blog daily living outside of the SV or the tech triangle I also wonder to myself quietly, “Is This Really Worth It?” I think there are many benefits, and even though the money isn’t coming in boat loads, as we see above, it is not always about the money.

Never thought I would say that, did you? One last thing on this Sunday until later on, as I have a BBQ to get ready to produce today - if you have not done so - please give your 10 answers and let my sponsor know if it is really worth it - ANSWER THE SURVEY!

Lastly — Please visit all of my sponsors today; you know them - and I’m not talking just the affiliate ads (do appreciate the outbound links I am seeing) or the Google AdSense (ditto!) stuff - but the for real people -

such as - Collarity, Planypus, HTPBG, DigitalRon, yourminis, and askitonline. These are the real deal sponsors of this blog! Please visit them at least once a week if you get a minute. They appreciate it, and you can never tell when something new is going on there. Oh.. feel free to buy a t-shirt, do a video or take a picture wearing it - I’ll promo it!

Need a widget, go to yourminis…

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

Widgets are cool. What is not cool, is the current (4:21pm, Saturday, 4/7/2007 - 37 degrees)temperature in St. Louis, MO! Thirty something degrees is not my idea of good weather.

For more widgets please visit www.yourminis.com

Technically Speaking, where can you get cool widgets like the above? At one of our sponsors - yourminis dot com!

Alpha Apollo Support for yourminis widget

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Earlier, or yesterday I talked about the yourminis blog widget. There is a comment on that post about a possible new surprise later on. Well it’s much later now, and I have some directions below on how to make this blog widget stand alone. Very nice. I will attempt this later on myself, but for now, I wanted to share it with all the readers so they can add the widget to their desktop.

Below are some steps to get started….

1. Please install Apollo and the yourminis air file. You can get both from the blog post above. This will give you the widget manager and a few default widgets.

2. You can click add new widgets in the widget manager which will launch the website to the widgets tab.

3. Simply go to any widget details page, configure the widget inline and click add to desktop and that widget will be added to your desktop. They should then all perform as they do in the web page.

For the bloggers — cool yourminis feature

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Yes, they are a long time sponsor here. I know you have clicked on them when I ask, but here is another great reason to check them out. If you are a blogger, just go to the yourminis main page. There you will see a tab that says blogs.

Now the cool thing - you can add your blog as a widget. I just added this blog, and it only takes a few moments of your time to do. Give it a shot, it will hopefully give your blog just that much more juice and exposure.

Technically Speaking, this is FREE and yourminis rocks!

Interesting widget

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

Want to watch Live TV? This looks interesting at least, but we all know where this is taking us now. Or more like where the tube is really headed very soon. I tried to watch the tube last night. Guess what? I fell asleep. Totally crashed out.

Technically Speaking, that tube is just not for me. Unless it’s the middle of the day and I’m watching something such as a sporting event, I think I’m going to just fall asleep! I find it more interesting right now, looking out my window as it is snowing here in St. Louis on St. Patrick’s Day!!

Planypus does Facebook and blog widgets

Monday, March 5th, 2007

That’s the latest news from the guys with one of the better event planning sites I’ve seen. What do I like about Planypus? I told you many times, or at least once here officially, it’s clean. You get to see what you are getting (a preview more or less) into before you sign up. Dedication by a dedicated team of guys. I have continued to watch Planypus, and they are evolving rather nicely. I just received this from Yan over there.

I just wanted to give you a heads up that we recently added some cool
features to Planypus. You can now take any Planypus activity and
export it to your profile in Facebook, or use our ‘blog widget’ tool
to add it to your blog. A great way to share plans you’re making on
Planypus with more friends.

What are you waiting for planners? I know that there has to be a lot of plans going on as far as Facebook is concerned right? I mean the demographics alone show that the crowd that favors Facebook is the crowd that loves to plan events. Command your fast typing or mouse clicking fingers to head on over to Planypus today, so you can sign up, and start making plans on the coolest event planning site around.

Technically Speaking, they have a cool mascot and cool shirts too. Just check out the T-Shirt that I have.
